As Taylor continued, Kanye interrupted, saying he thought Beyonce's "Single Ladies" video was wrongly overlooked. "Hey Taylor, I'm really happy for you, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time."

>>>All these managers and coaches are not making personal threats when they complain about officiating.<<<

I have to think, with all the over the top tirades we’ve seen, over the years, once in a while a manager or player makes what could be considered a personal threat against an official or umpire. The difference is, they are generally not picked up on microphones, as in tennis. She certainly should not have said what she said, and deserves some sort of suspension, but I don’t think this was any sort of unprecedented outburst.

I think I might be tougher on Williams if it hadn’t been such a horrnedous call. The lineswoman apparently decided to impose herself on the match, making a call that nobody ever makes in a spot like that, and that was clearly, 100% wrong.

It wasn’t like she simply blew an in/out call, where a call must be made. She went out of her way to make one of the worst calls in sports history. It would be like a basketball referee calling a player for taking too long to shoot a free throw with a chance to send a playoff game into overtime, when he only took 5 seconds, as opposed to the 10 seconds allowed.

I find it rather odd that the USTA would hire a person with on obvious vision problem (the lineswoman wore glasses) for a crucial position, where eyesight is about 90% of the job. (I say this as one who is very nearsighted.) But, that is our politically correct. affirmitave action, society. Kind of reminds me the stuttering announcer in the short story “Harrison Bergeron”.

The way things are going, in 10 or 20 years, we will have the first (literally) blind major league umpire or NBA or NFL offical and it will be hailed as a historic victory for diversity.

I haven't seen any video that would support that statement. The videos are not conclusive. How can you even make that statement? Do you have something to support it? In her bizarre post-match interview, Serena said she probably did commit a foot fault.

And you don't know that personal threats are common. Kids on pee wee teams learn not to make personal threats to officials or opposing players. They know it will get them thrown out of a game, or even suspended for short or long periods of time. The ranting and raving by coaches and managers is about specific calls, or about the officials competency, but all participants know that personal threats will cost them far more than a penalty or technical foul.

So officials are only supposed to enforce select rules? What other rules do you think should not be enforced?

Yep, I think that is accepted. There were disputes whether she said: "I'll kill you."

Fine, but find a better example than Kanye West. He has always been an idiot. Athletes have always been prone to outbursts. As has been said, most aren’t mic’d. Do you not think a Baseball manager has said what Serena said and worse in the past?

How has Beyonce been immunized from the terrible effects of Obama in all of this? Some people, like Kanye, are trash, others are capable of being being good gracious people. Who the President is has little to no bearing on that. I assure you, if Kanye is still around after Obama is out of office and a Republican is in office he will still be acting like this. Athletes will still be getting mad at calls made during athletic contests.

This is all a reach.

I’m sure there are much better examples out there without a history of this behavior. Find them and use them. Don’t try to make a connection that isn’t there.

I'm not making connections, but when Obama tells supporters to go out there and "get in their face", and when he says in his speech to the joint session that those who oppose his health care plans are liars (when he is lying about so much), then he is contributing to an atmosphere. His entire speech to the joint session had a tone seldom used by presidents.

I've just discussed mostly Serena, and made no specific connection to Obama. But the creating an atmosphere idea has been around for years, and Obama is creating a confrontational atmosphere that is consistent with some of this behavior. Specific connections are irrelevant. His behavior stands on its own.

I’ve seen a few comments on Facebook (from blacks) defending West. He has “free speech!!”

>>>So officials are only supposed to enforce select rules? What other rules do you think should not be enforced? <<<

a) She enforced the rule incorrectly. There was nothing close to a foot fault on that serve, as the replay clearly showed.

b) Foot faults happen all the time, but are almost never called. You don't start calling something like that on a second serve, one point from match point. If you are going to call a foot fault in that spot you'd better be darn sure it is the right call, and it was not.

It looked like Williams was going to lose, anyway, as she was down a set and seemed to be struggling, but the officials should not impose themselves on a sporting event on that way.

Looking at the smug look on the lineswoman’s face, it seemed clear, she wanted to put her stamp on the match, with that incorrect call. It was disgraceful (as was Williams’ reaction). She should never officiate another match.

Kanye West and his date, Amber Rose, on the red carpet before the awards show.

Note that he’s drinking out of a bottle of booze of some sort and can’t be bothered to tuck his shirt in. Also, his date is attired in a completely inappropriate manner even for this event. The lack of a bra is the least of her fashion faux pas on this night. What a couple of skeevy low lifes.

West gave a sorry excuse for an apology on his blog. It wasn’t really an apology, just another reason to give his opinion about who should have won. Someone needs to keep that idiot away from stage.

I’d pay money to get in the ring with Kanye West just for the opportunity to speed bag his head for a round.
