I learned that studying archaeology...apparently the ratio of cow to horse bones over a set period of time and a set location can indicate a drought in that time frame. More horses than cows would die off because less food would have a bigger impact on the horses.
see, that right there is why i love free republic. i learn something interesting every day. my brothers say i am a fountain of useless trivia, i grew up on a farm, and yet i did not know that. thank you. :)
