AUGUSTA, Maine - Motorists, drop those cellphones. And lose the laptops, bag the Big Macs, and nix the newspapers and roadmaps while youre behind the wheel. Its now against the law to drive while distracted in Maine.
More than a dozen states have passed laws making texting while driving illegal, and some states and cities have outlawed use of cell phones while driving. A bill in Congress would force states to ban texting or e-mailing or lose 25 percent of their annual federal highway funding.

Cool, so I guess that means all billboards and road signs will need to be taken down to.

maine is destined to become the mecca of the brave new socialist world.

Not only that, but police will have to turn off their radar units and dispatch radios while driving...
Never mind, "the authorities" will be able to do whatever they want to, distractions or not - it's for the "public's benefit", after all - whereas the public will not be permitted to do as they please, because "freedom" is not in the "public's benefit"...

Not to be missed in the silliness of Maine. it was prompt by congress.
A bill in Congress would force states to ban texting or e-mailing or lose 25 percent of their annual federal highway funding.
But worst of all for many guys, No more Hot dates.

Good state law. Unconstitutional (or it should be) federal law. The feds should not be allowed to extort from states what it is not empowered to do directly.
