Wow. What a way to end a tennis match.

Are you disrespecting me?

She continued yelling at the line judge, and went back over, shaking her racket in the official's direction. Asked in her postmatch news conference what she said to the line judge, Williams wouldn't say, replying, "What did I say? You didn't hear?" "I've never been in a fight in my whole life, so I don't know why she would have felt threatened," Williams said with a smile. The line judge went over to the chair umpire, and tournament referee Brian Earley joined in the conversation. With the crowd booing -- making part of the dialogue inaudible -- Williams then went over and said to the line judge: "Sorry, but there are a lot of people who've said way worse." Then the line judge said something to the chair umpire, and Williams responded, "I didn't say I would kill you. Are you serious? I didn't say that." The line judge replied by shaking her head and saying, "Yes." Williams already had been give a code violation warning when she broke her racket after losing the first set. So the chair umpire now awarded a penalty point to Clijsters, ending the match.

"I used to have a real temper, and I've gotten a lot better," Williams said later. "So I know you don't believe me, but I used to be worse. Yes, yes, indeed."

Glad we didn't see her on one of her "bad days."

"If I could, I would take this ... ball and shove it down your ... throat,"

WOW and the Jon Stewart media has been crying about lost civility. Have we not heard this somewhere before right out of the bowels of our government????

Maybe she should be tested to see if there are Hermaphroditic qualities in her personality?

she did foot fault, she did drop some "F"-bombs.

She lost 6 weeks ago cause she didn't train hard enough and didn't have the foot speed to run down Clijster's shots or take over points off her serve.

Tennis is the "fairest" of sports. You have to win by 2 points and two game unless you go to a tie-breaker. But you still have to win by 2 points even then.

There is no "running out the clock", no lucky one shot or knock out punch.

Serena knew she was getting owned by Kim and just took the easy way out. It's her way of saving her ego. It's almost as bad as Marcelo Rios tanking matches. In fact it's worse cause she was the champion and I believe she had a b#tch fit cause she wasn't #1 in the world ranking and Kim Clijsters wasn't just bowing down and losing like she'd done 7 out of the last 8 times they played.

Just a sad pathetic moment in Women's Tennis and in American Tennis. pathetic.

Looks like Serena has been infected with that Michelle Obama spirit.

The judge is quite obviously a racist. I mean really, what other explanation is there these days when things don’t go right for the Obamatons?

She is obviously insulting and threatening the judge. She loses. Maybe she should take up hockey instead.

As bad as this incident was, leaving a three-quarters-filled Arthur Ashe Stadium in near stunned silence, worse was Williams’ handling of the aftermath in a news conference. There, she had a chance to apologize, or maybe even fake some remorse. She did neither.

Instead, we got the usual, phony, sing-songy deflections and silly answers — all done with a big smile, as if she had just won, 6-0, 6-0.

Examples:

Question: What did you say?

Answer: What did I say? You didn’t hear? Oh.

Q. Do you think the lineswoman had any reason to feel threatened. Apparently she says she felt threatened?

A. She says she felt threatened. She said this to you?

Q. I’m just repeating what has been said that she told the chair umpire.

A. Well, I’ve never been in a fight in my whole life, so I don’t know why she would be threatened.

Q. Do you regret losing your temper both after the first set and after the foot fault?

A. I haven’t really thought about it to have any regrets. I try to — I’ve done — you know, I try to not live my life saying, I wish, I wish. But, you know, I was out there and fought and I tried and I did my best.

Q. You’ve always prided yourself on being an extremely forthright player, and with us here in the press room. Could you tell us what you said on the court, please?

A. I don’t think that’s necessary for me to speak about that. I’ve let it go, and I’m trying to better — to, you know, to get — to move on.

Q. Do you think the lineswoman deserves an apology?

A. An apology for?

Q. From you.

A. From me?

Q. Would you be interested to see if you actually foot faulted?

A. I’m pretty sure I did. If she called a foot fault, she must have seen a foot fault. I mean, she was doing her job. I’m not going to knock her for not doing her job.
