The crash happened about 9:10 p.m. Friday, when Henderson and companion Victor Keith were walking north on Seventh Avenue. Henderson, police said later, was walking in the road.

A pickup truck hit her from behind, vaulting her off the hood and onto the east shoulder of the street. “The male counterpart that was walking with our victim in the crash, he went over and actually punched the window of the driver’s vehicle out and demanded their money, which they gave him,” Crews said.

Asked if he had an idea why Keith would commit robbery instead of helping the badly hurt Henderson, Crews said he wouldn’t comment.

In the "topics "section here on Freerepublic, I used "animals" and "outdoors" for this one. From what I understand, this man and woman decided to rob a passerby, by standing in front of cars, and when one would stop, they would rob the driver.

So, a truck ran into the female robber, and she was killed, and without missing a beat, the male robber punched the window of the truck, as she lay dying, demanded money from driver Samuel Taylor Toole and 20 year old companion Kimberly Brown, took it and fled.

"After he hit my girl, I ran up to see if my girl was all right," Keith said. "Then I ran over and asked him why he did that. He shrugged his shoulders at me."

Keith said he also asked Toole for money, but that he didn’t have a weapon and was not threatening Toole or his female companion. Police said Keith punched out the driver’s side window. Keith said he knew he was going to need money to pay for Henderson’s medical bills and other issues. "I was trying to get her to the hospital," he said.

His mother, Myra Keith, acknowledged it was unusual to ask for money at the scene of an accident but said her son was hysterical and did not know what to do."

This is a sad story because it sounds like the deceased young lady
may have had something going for.

I wonder if the cops will treat the driver as the LAPD did a guy
who struck and killed a fairly prominent lady in Los Angeles about
a dozen years ago.
It was after dark and the lady stepped out into the street, not
at any sort of intersection.
Car struck and killed her.
LAPD and LA District Att. said “no charges”.

Actually, that floored me a bit when I read the story. As I presumed
in a liberal mecca like LA, you hit someone even laying in the street,
you’d go to jail.

the family is claiming that the driver refused to call 911 and shrugged? if he was that callous, he could have left. he probably was in shock.

If I were the judge handling this case, I’d just have to stand up, hand in my robe and take a walk that day- I can’t imagine even talking to people like this. You would have to be souless.

That is, actually, a fairly common tactic. Children are often used as the road block as well.

things certainly have gone downhill with respect to “ethnic relations” since the Leader ascended to the presidency with his statements such as: push back harder, bring a gun, get in their face, etc.

their probably will be other factors involved such as: street lights, color of clothes the deceased was wearing, important things like that.

The Washington County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will hold a memorial march for Lashawn Henderson, who was killed in a traffic accident Friday evening in Chipley.

Simon Sheffield of the NAACP requested permission to hold the march, with another march probably to be held on Sept. 25.

Dorothy Harper also spoke to Council, asking why the driver of the truck, Samuel Taylor Toole, was not in jail like Henderson’s boyfriend, Victor Keith, who is charged with two counts of robbery.

“What are you going to do?” Harper asked Council. “I think he needs to be punished too. I just don’t think it was right.”

Miller said her family felt ignored by police, who she said did not notify her of Henderson’s death or inform her of the decision not to pursue charges against the driver.

“No police officer in this little town knocked on my door and told me what happened,” she said. She suggested it could be a race issue.

“We’re not human,” she said of her black family. “This is the kind of stuff that Chipley’s been doing for a long time, because you can’t get this way overnight.”

question why was just the boy arrested why havent the person whom killed ma sister in jail she was not the person whom commited the crime see god seats high an he sees everything down low an i grant the world that justice for my sisters murder will be served if the chif of the police deportment has to be arrrested so shall it be this has become an racial issuse an my father holds the key to my sisters salvation how come the person whom killed her gets to talk an we be trated like we were the people whom killed her no that is not going to stand up in my fathers kingdom. my father will not rest until the truth is revealed may god bless cause he shall put my baby too rest in peace. Not the most solid evidence I ever read.

I know a litle bit about the Bonifay Chipley area. They are both small towns and have less than 10,000 people between them (they are both county seats). Local roads around there have virtually no traffic, and people walk in the middle of the road at night all the time.

even if this turns out to be a terrible accident, if i were the driver, i would be worried about my safety.

i wonder if he is cleared, and some of the claims by the deceased family such as the lack of a 911 call ought to be easily determined, will the NAACP apologize to the driver? rhetorical question of course.
