They weren't all that interested in general freedom. They just wanted the power to kill unborn children and since the government had rules against it they had to be against that government, thus pro "freedom". Now that the government wants to pay for those abortions and provide as many as desired they no longer have to be anti-government/pro-freedom and their true selves are exposed.

I phrased the hypocrisy as "Why do the Dems want to allow a woman the choice to remove an unborn child without any restriction like it was some type of tumor, but would require that same woman to receive (and possibly be denied) government permission to have an actual tumor removed?"

Precisely.
For leftists it is never about principle. It is only about the accrual of power.
Infanticide fits perfectly into the leftist playbook of population control, particularly minority populations. “Right to Choose” has always been about reducing the black and poor populations.
Murder is, after all, the primary tool in the leftist kit.
