Just a suggestion: if the action (height from string to fretboard) is high you’ll get frustrated. Consider borrowing an electric on occasion to see what they’re supposed to sound and look like - then go back to acoustic and try to do the same. Just my $.02 worth.

PD, Can’t you adjust the height? My brother plays both electric, and acoustic, and works on them both. I believe I have heard him say he adjusts the height between strings and fretboard as a routine thing.

Yes, to a point. But a Strat style electric will usually have a much lower action than an acoustic, especially in the same price range. My only point about the lower action is that you can practice the finger placement and hear what it should sound like without having your fingers cramp in 5 minutes (BTW, try to relax your thumb when doing barre chords or you'll be hurting really quick). Thank you. I also read your suggestion in a booklet about barre chords. Some guitars are more difficult to hit barre chords especially acoustic vs. electric. I’ve though about getting an electric to start out playing barre chords.
