The federal government is doing "nothing" to protect against an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack that could wipe out American civilization, Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, a leading expert on the subject, tells Newsmax.
For only $200 million to $400 million, the government could protect a key element of the power grid to keep electrical power from being wiped out for years, according to Dr. Pry, a former staff member of the congressional Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse Attack.
Yet neither Republicans nor Democrats have been willing to spend that small sum, says Pry, who is president EMPACT America, which is meeting in Niagara Falls, N.Y. this week to spotlight the scandal.
A single nuclear bomb exploded over the Midwest would generate an electromagnetic pulse that would destroy the chips that are the heart of every electronic device. While military and intelligence networks may be shielded against EMP, most of the rest of the country's technological infrastructure is not.
An EMP attack would wipe out personal computers and the internet. Cars would not start, gasoline pumps would not work, and airplanes could not take off.

Personally...if I had to lose sleep over something sending us back to the "stone age"...I would be far more worried about a CME/X-class flare. That could really mess us up and it has happened. Just not in the modern era.
So...not worried about it happening either...just know its possible. We would see the same impact from a CME.

I agree. EMP is a well known effect and danger. The guy comes off as a know-it-all that knows nothing or is deliberately naysaying to distract and deflect from the subject. Typical leftist tactics. FR is overrun with trolls and paid operatives these days. Trying to do damage control for Zero, no doubt, and taking up valuable time by causing conflict and controversy. You can always spot them by their superior attitude and condescending posting manner. And of course, by their lies.
It’s sad that we have to think in these survival terms, but alas, this is where we are. Assuming you could get there, I recommend arranging with someone that you’ve made friends with (someone like-minded) that has a place out im the country, far away from the mass of society that will be trying to take what you have and harm you and yours in the process. Someone that agrees that should TSHTF, there is safety in numbers, especially when armed to the teeth, and that would welcome you joining them at their property for the ordeal ahead.
If you had told me 10-15 years ago that we would be forced to think in these terms, I would have laughed. Look who’s NOT laughing now.

Hey, it works for me! Only thing is... I only use black powder for my "entertainment shooting." You know, having a little fun with a .45 Kentucky Rifle, or a .50 Hawken. For the serious stuff I use Alliant Powders of one recipe or another - it depends upon what I caliber I am working on and the purpose of the round.
Now, as far as the other half of the lyrics... Well... You get a burlap sack and fill it with 10 pounds of good seed corn. Then you wet it down, keeping it just damp enough to let the corn "sprout." Once the corn has "sprouted" to about a quarter of an inch, you take it out and put it in the water to rinse. Once rinsed, you rub it to take off the sprouts. Throw the sprouts and roots away and transfer the corn into your primary fermenter. With a clean stick you mash the corn, making sure all kernels are cracked. Next, you add 5 gallons of boiling water. When the mash cools add 1 cup of yeast. Seal the whole batch in your fermenter bucket and vent it with a water sealed vent. The fermentation will take 7-10 days. When the fermentation is done, you pour the mash into your still, filtering it through a clean pillow case to remove all solids. Now it's time... You turn the heat on low and watch the thermometer. Keep the temperature between 173 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The object of distilling is to boil off the alcohol and leave the water in the pot. Alcohol boils at 173 and water boils at 212 degrees. You throw the first ounce or so of liquid that comes from the output tube away. This is called the "foreshots" and it is impure. (In other words, the "foreshots" taste like... well, you know.) The "reflux" still allows for a more pure alcohol than does the old traditional "Pot and Condenser Coil" that is ofter seen in photographs. It does so because the alcohol makes several passes up the "reflux column", leaving the impurities behind. It is the impurities in the alcohol that give people hangovers at best, and can kill them at worst. With a nice "reflux" still, you can make quality "corn whiskey" on par with the big distilleries - if you work at it and want to age it in an charred oak barrel to get the pretty color and additional flavor.
Thus concludes today's lesson on home manufacturing of alcohol... :-)

BTW: My dad was an agent for the State of Tennessee's Alcoholic Beverage Commission back in the 1960's, so I know this process well. Though long since passed away (1993), he still holds the state record (along with his partner) for the largest still ever busted... Hold on to your hats for this one: 2,400 gallons! Fired by propane and set back into the side of a hill over in West Tennessee. Couldn't see it from the air, and it made no smoke because it was propane fired. They discovered it by accident while out scouting for other stills! Talk about being in the right place at the right time!

I’m not sure about the availability of suitable delivery systems; it’s one thing to land a nuke ON Cleveland than it is to pop a pit 200 miles OVER Cleveland.
But yeah, one of the main reasons nobody has seriously attacked us is because they have not wanted to, not because they can’t.

Febatron.... LOL, I always thought that was a cool name. Yep, Area V - the new GIF is a veritable cathedral. They did shut down SPR about a year ago, although the ACRR is still limping along.
Haven’t been to TAMU, but work with some folks that test there frequently. Also used to go to PI (or whatever they call it now) and shoot stuff on the 1150, MBS, and Double Eagle.

As far as I know Russia, China, France, USA, Japan, and possibly India have launch capabilities to put a “big one” in the right spot from offshore. I’m not an expert in booster technology (but that won’t stop me from bloviating on!)
Your run-of-the-mill “city incinerator” missiles have a range of 5000-6000 miles and only rise up 60-70 miles, sort of low for the big EMP pancake effect. The 60 miles high comes in the middle of the trajectory. For good EMP you want to be 120, 170, even 250 miles up, and that would need to be the middle of the path, not the end. Compare that to Korea’s last launch. I think Iran can orbit small sats, they might be capable in a few years.
You need orbital or suborbital capability. Some Russian tests were done at an altitude of 300 miles, that’s the low end of Shuttle territory.
You theoretically could smuggle in, or clandestinely build, a booster in the USA, smuggle in or build a thermonuclear bomb, and launch from Indiana straight up. But for that much effort, the kill is low compared to a thermonuke in NYC hidden in a ‘70 VW microbus painted with flowers.
Or go the Pegasus route, with a missile carried to 40,000 feet on a bomber and launched up from there. But now we are back in First World capabilities.
I don’t think Russia et al would launch an EMP-only attack, because our retaliatory strikes would be unaffected by EMP and they’d lose some space assets. As part of an overall attack policy, they may wish to add to the confusion with a couple EMP-placed nukes, but along with that would come coordinated cyber attacks, conventional nuke missiles, infrastructure attacks, and probably bio attacks too, to lessen any counterstrike.
