Tolkien Estate, New Line Settle Lawsuit Over Films

The heirs of J.R.R. Tolkien and a movie studio that produced the blockbuster "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy have settled a lawsuit over the films' profits, it was announced Tuesday.

The out-of-court resolution clears the way for a two-film prequel based on Tolkien's novel "The Hobbit" and will benefit charities around the world, according to a joint press release announcing the settlement.

Seems incredible that they would invest millions and millions to make the movie and not have every i dotted and t crossed first.

Tolkien’s writing style was really beautiful. I read and reread passages he wrote in all of those books, though I’m not a big fan of fantasy, because of his writing style.

That’s something you miss in the movies, although they were extremely well done. I’m interested to see what they do with The Hobbit.

and how will they ever convince Dan Rather to play him?
