Secret's out: why women really have sex
news ^ | September 08, 2009

FOR every woman expecting the earth to move, there are two with more practical motives.

From relieving boredom, to keeping the peace or curing a headache, women have sex for many reasons but romance and passion come rather low on the list, a new book has revealed.

One woman even admitted to having sex just so her husband would put the rubbish out.

"Research has shown most men find most women at least somewhat sexually attractive, whereas most women do not find most men sexually attractive at all," Why Women Have Sex authors Cindy Meston and David Buss said.

Having apparently discounted physical attraction, the 1000 women interviewed by the Texas University professors gave a huge range of reasons for sleeping with a man.

One said she did it for a spiritual experience, proclaiming: "It's the closest thing to God."

But mostly the explanations were far more mundane, with 84 per cent admitting to having sex just to ensure a quiet life or to bargain for household chores. One woman said: "I have sex to relieve the boredom because it's easier than fighting. Plus it gives me something to do."

I dunno. In my day, I had plenty of good sex with liberal chicks.

Oft repeated, loud, and mutually enjoyable.

But it was “sex.” Not love.

And very empty and unfulfilling.

I suppose it’s too much to suggest the possibility that women have sex because they enjoy it....?

I tell myself that FReeper dudes are just playing to other dude's perceptions when they talk like this.

Why else would one admit that their wives don't want to be intimate with them? It's a rather damning admission.

" That being said, I make sure to keep him happy and satisfied. It’s not that sex is on my mind a lot, but keeping my hero, my husband, happy....That’s always on my mind. As a result, we’re a very happy couple..... "

Everyone happy keeps the peace.

No, it is not true.
I have often been grateful that I personally am attracted to masculinity more than physical beauty in a man. I like thier voices, I glance at their hands, their ‘otherness’ and I like to try to interpret their interactions with one another - it’s interesting to me, the world of men.
In other words, masculinity is beautiful and therefore am awash in a sea of men I find attractive. I laughed at myself for ‘cruising’ around a residential block a second time just to admire what I took to be ‘cute’ men mowing the lawn. As far as American Idol goes, they were not classically handsome. Some were older, some were graying, some were bald or had little beer tummys’ but in their ‘guy’ attire (shorts, pale legs and shirtless) and the look of concentration on their faces as they tried not to mow down the wife’s flowers etc. I thought they seemed masculine. I know George Clooney is ‘handsome’ but I am not really that attracted to ‘pretty’ I am attracted to the differences of mind and manner that makes men, men. When I was in college, I remember the pull of attraction I felt for a man who was quadrapalegic. He was so pleasingly masculine and he had a gentle heart despite the personal rage he was experiencing as he tried to adjust to his injuries.
Previous surveys I have read always indicate that women look at mens eyes, look for kindness in those eyes, want humor etc. It’s a repulsive cliche perhaps but it almost a cautious fearful question “Will he be kind or should I fear this man’s temper. Is he as trust worthy as he seems. WOuld he take the time, now and then, to make a joke to make me laugh?”
These things are more important to women and they just displace the physical things whereas men emphasize the physical and don’t mind if the woman’s eyes don’t look especially kind or if she has such a great sense of humor or not.
This poll makes me reflect with sadness on the state of marriage. It’s as though modern mate selection added an extra push to the pressure married people already face - fewer people are happy in their marriages.

I don't like to believe that so many good men have married women who hate sex. I think FReeper guys are putting on when they claim that they never get any because it's the guy thing to do.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification.

According to my wife, some women apparently really are indifferent to sex. She's puzzled by them...

I do think that men also look in a woman's eye to look in her soul, and she what kind of person she is.
Freeper men will know what I am talking about when they see a woman with that crazy look in their eyes and run far from those kinds of women.

I think the ones who say that, say it in jest.

At least I’d hope they do.

If not, they might want to re-look the relationship they are in.

A workable definition of love: being willing to make an effort to keep the other happy.

From relieving boredom,

Yep. I've been there. to keeping the peace or curing a headache, women have sex for many reasons but romance and passion come rather low on the list, a new book has revealed.B.S. I have never had sex for a headache or to keep peace. Passion on the other hand is a regular reason for this gal. Idiots. Think women don't have it going on with desire like men do.

One woman even admitted to having sex just so her husband would put the rubbish out.
"Research has shown most men find most women at least somewhat sexually attractive, whereas most women do not find most men sexually attractive at all," Why Women Have Sex authors Cindy Meston and David Buss said.B.S. again on the part where women do not find most men sexually attractive. My husband is hotness personified and I want him regularly for that reason alone :-D. Women look as much as men and when they likey. They wantey. Plain and simple.

This article is rubbish.
