Just remember, fasting for Muslims means not eating only in the daylight hours as winter approaches, for a month. Many people only eat every other day and don’t consider such behavior a fast whatsoever.

Sortof like an alcoholic going on the wagon by not drinking until after 6 pm and only during weekends.

Because the Muslim calendar is a lunar calendar with no intercalary months, it is about 11 days shorter than a solar year, so Ramadan moves through the seasons—sometimes it’s in winter, sometimes it’s in summer. When Sadat launched the October war in 1973, it was the month of Ramadan. When Clinton did his “wag the dog” bombing of Baghdad just before the start of Ramadan (trying to derail the Congressional vote on impeachment) it was in December. This year it began on August 21. Next year it will begin on August 11.
