i have always wondered why we pledge our allegiance to a piece of fabric. we should pledge our allegiance to the country, or the constitution, but not fabric. i realize the flag is a symbol of our country, however the country itself or the constitution which created the country is more important. jmho.

I don't pledge allegiance to anything. I'm a willing party to a contract: as long as the other party abides, I will do the same.

As far as I can tell, the other party abrogated that contract long ago.

And that leaves aside the fact that the "Pledge" was written by a utopian socialist and originally included a creepy salute.

Thank god my parents sent me to private school where I was exempted from this nonsense.
