Depends, I don’t know what the determining factor is, and you may get one playback with that, I am not up on it but have heard about the process.
My understanding, which is quite limited and comes from only one source (the guy who engineered my band’s cd), is that all tapes from that era likely need to be baked.
I asked him that very question. Do you only get one shot at digitizing the tapes after having baked them? He thought that it might be able to be done maybe twice but wasn’t sure.
