I disagree with your analogy to Patton. Patton was a military man that believed in strict adherence to rules and order. This grumpy old man not only could not control his own emotional outburst (inevitably acting like a 2-year old himself), but the man actually broke the law. Patton would have gladly crucified the grumpy old man.
All the man had to do was leave, but he felt he was so self-important that the mother and child should be forced to leave or accommodate his weak sensitivities.
In TX, where most of us carry a gun, if you hit my kid for any reason, then you most likely will not walk away from the scene.
