KILLEEN (September 1, 2009)A 9-year-old girl was taken to Metroplex Hospital in Killeen Tuesday afternoon with what police described as a serious wound after a pit bull attacked her as she walked home from a school bus stop.
The attack happened just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of Evergreen Street in Killeen near the intersection with West Bruce Drive, Killeen Police Department spokeswoman Carroll Smith said.
The girl was walking south on the west side of Evergreen on her way home after getting off the school bus, Smith said, when the dog, which lives in the neighborhood, escaped through the open gate of a fenced yard and charged her.
The dog bit her in the leg, Smith said.
Alecia Tobar, 23, lives in the neighborhood.
She was on the phone when the dog attacked, heard the girls screams and rushed to try to help.
I hung up the phone (and) ran across the street as fast as I could to try to help her, she said.
The dog just would not let go of her leg. He had her pinned to the ground, she said.
It all happened really fast."
A resident of the home from whose yard the dog escaped came out and pulled the dog off.
He picked up the girl and took her to her home on Southside Drive, police said.
From there, the girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Information about her condition was not immediately available.
Smith said the dog was captured and was turned over to Animal Control.
The dogs owner is out of town, but will be contacted, Smith said.
Prayers for this little girl.
Pit Bulls should be exterminated. That breed has been ruined, unfortunately.
WHY does any sane, decent person keep one of these vicious, unpredictable, dangerous animals in his home?

Google Search Kills: RESULTS August 26, 2009 Draw your own conclusions!
Pit Bull Kills 510,000
Poodle Kills 593
Great Dane Kills 1,230
German Shepherd Kills 3,860
Chihuahua Kills 1,130
Dalmation Kills 35
Is Google biased against PIT BULLS and CONSERVATIVES? lol
I have to wonder if the number of German Shepherd kills would be reduced if they took out the law enforcement dog tallies.
