Here is my question: If you felt it was necessary to leave our America to avoid the politics, where would you go? I had an interesting conservation with a friend today and he made the statement that he was considering researching for a new home. Since I have never given thought to the subject, I was completely stumped. I have no idea where I would go.
I think you’re right. Culturally, Monterrey is not very different from Dallas. Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas are already tied just as strongly to Texas as to the DF; it wouldn’t take much to make the arrangements more formal.
On further review, it seems both of the ‘guays have recently elected leftists.

That is correct.
But what is not as well known is that the real criminal subculture, away from the capital area (where foreigners are hawked property) have no problem getting and using automatic weapons, and handguns of all sorts and use them regularly to terrorize foreigners. Usually after the fat dumb and happy foreigners build their "dream retirement" home. Squatting is rampant throughout the country, and property ownership is so tenuous that dozens of locals will claim property that has no clear chain of ownership.
Often, the local police are complicit in the criminality, or imcompetent, driven by their desire to preserve both their jobs and their lives. There is no national police to speak of, so it's not a case of unwillingness to confront the criminals, they are unable to do so.
As another example, there was a draconian national traffic code recently adopted, with citations starting at $100. Not surprisingly, a local's first reaction was to ask the obvious question: "Do those stupid lawmakers think that we will not suggest an "alternative, reasonable" solution when stopped by a traffic cop?"
South of the border all the way to Patagonia, that's a way of life.
Am replacing windows and doors and adding a tankless water heater. We’re looking into solar or wind* for the outbuildings....If someone would “Henry Ford” the solar/wind industry, produce an affordable practical productive unit that can be installed by the home owner, it would help our entire energy “problem”.
*Sam’s Club has some units on line....wish I knew how well they worked.
Solar, wind and generator power will take you off the grid. My brother did it but unfortunately, the wife couldn’t handle it.

Me too. Texas is my home for as long as I need a home. I posted this thread thinking a few people would reply. I never imagined it was a hot thought in many minds. After reading about 120 replies, obviously people are thinking about it...
I retired to Spain 15 years ago and it is a great place for retirees, it has a good climate, no bugs, the people are laid back and very pleasant.
However, if you need to work, then in Spain and maybe all of Europe is not good for you, as they generally do not recognize any American educational qualifications, unless you get a job working for some UN International Organization.
Regarding Health Care, I have lived in England (30 yrs), America (35 yrs) and Spain (15 yrs) and the Spanish system is the best followed by England. America is far far behind as to be almost in bygone age.
I am a foreigner and fully covered for €80 a month by the Government with no co pay and 95% of my prescriptions. In addition should I need full time care for dementia or Alzheimer’s it will cost me 3/4 of my state pension, no matter how much money or property I have.
In addition, to help keep the pensioners healthy and happy they have subsided holidays in any Spanish territory. My gang of three elderly ladies and myself has been to The Canary Islands twice and once to Majorca, including all meals. Not as good as the Germans or Scandinavians whose governments take over many of the Spanish hotels during the winter months to send their elder citizens with respiratory problems or those in need of a nice holiday to escape their dismal winter weather. That way the Spanish government does not have to pay unemployment to all the laid off hospitality workers.
Well getting to Texas probably isn’t feasible for me. That why I’m basically resigned to standing my ground pretty much where I am.
