I'm just glad the story isn't about a family member who's loved one died in a car wreck trying to avoid a cat in the street that someone allowed to run loose.

shouldn't the cat owner be apologizing to the cat for allowing the cat to roam free where getting hit by a car is a real danger?

what if the driver didn't see the cat, or would have hit an 18-wheeler if they swerved to avoid the cat?

you love your pets so much, don't put them out into the world alone. how about that?

Sad story about the fellow's pet cat. God has blessed us with animals to eat, and to enjoy as companions. But if its a case of putting a person's life in danger - by either slamming on the brakes, or recklessly swerving the car - a person's life trumps an animal's life any day. By all means - try to avoid killing the animal, but sometimes it is unavoidable (I nailed a couple of chipmunks once... Sorry guys - I didn't see you).
I remember that incident on Highway 85 (in the South Bay) around 10 years ago. A man with his family pulled his mini-van off the road (but still in a dangerous area) and ran out to try to catch a dog that was wandering on the Highway. He endangered his life, but what was worse - a car struck the mini-van and killed his child... I'm sure that well-meaning fellow is haunted by his actions to this day.
Yes, we are to be good stewards of God's Creation and to care for the animals -- but never put a person's life in danger, even if it means running over an animal. Every person is made in God's image and every soul is precious.
If there is any chance of endangering your's, or someone else's, life by making a rash maneuver with the car - don't do it. The animal loses.

My neighborhood, which is near an incredibly busy suburban intersection, functions as a high-speed shortcut. The city knows this, because it frequently sends motorcycle cops to camp at the corner. But they can't get all of them. So many of us don't let our children ride their bikes and Big Wheels anywhere near our front yards.

And yet he has the nerve to complain about a CAT getting hit?

Obviously this guy is an idiot. If he really valued this recently departed cat, he would have KEPT HIM INDOORS where he belongs!

Let’s see: small, hard-to-see animal walking in the street where big cars go ZOOM. I’m as shocked as anybody that the cat would get injured in such a situation. One thing that might help the author get through this trying time is if he makes at least a small effort to be a man. He’ll cry about far less inevitable things that way.
