In 1973 Novak listed seven “axioms” that described the Washington press corps: anti-Vietnam war; reduction of defense spending; environmental protection rather than economic growth; total war against ‘white racism’; school busing; protection of civil liberties, and greater federal funding for the redistribution of wealth through use of the tax system and fiscal policy. The new press corps is the old press corps in drag.
