Pretty sad when the Times Online in the UK has more details and info than the US Maggot Media.
Oh, that’s right - they are too busy lionizing the Head Maggot, Kennedy!
Thanks for the info, and God rest their souls.
As trailer parks go, it's a nice one.
When I ran the settling pond there ( sewage was send to a holding pond, where it lingered in the sunlight and air long enough to kill pathogenic organisms, and to be certain, the discharge was chlorinated. ) I vaguely knew the owner, and he ran a tight ship.
The local paper ( Unfondly known as The Brunswick Snooze or The Brunswick Excuse [ of a paper ]) seems to be regurgitating boilerplate from the other services.
Just a guess would be murder/suicide, or a bad drug/gang deal.
There are some nice trailer parks around. Particularly in coastal communities where land prices can be a little squirrely, or military/law enforcement centers like FLETC.
Is there any local talk about what this might have been? Family dispute? In a 'tight ship' a drug deal gone bad seems unlikely.
Is there any enterprising local TV or radio station?
I hear you- the AJC is called various rude names down here... we briefly had a TV station about 15 years ago, but they got too close to the local gooberment's assorted corruptions, and had to pull up stakes and move away.
I'll try to catch what I call "the Loco News" on the half-hour, when they air items supposedly of interest to the community.
It's a shame Captain Haupt died- when his wife & Miss Emily worked together, he lunched with them every day, and being Chief of Detectives, he knew about the "really good stuff" going on around town.
McIntosh is the same way, but efforts are being made to clean things up .. . the new mayor seems to be hardworking and honest.
Thanks- that's a much better article. Sounds like the locals are flipping out a bit much, but then again, can't blame them- while we certainly have crime, drugs, and murders, it hasn't been en masse like this before.
Is it just me, or is it really strange that when it comes to the if-it-bleeds-it-leads media, there’s so little reporting on this? Looks like most of the space I’ve seen given to the story is taken from the same AP info, even at the local level. Or is it just that the cops are doing a very good job keeping a lid on the investigation? And if so, hope that won’t be counterproductive if there’s still a threat to the public from the person/people who did this.
Ah, now they are saying they were shot. I saw a report first thing this morning and they did not disclose.
Good points- normally, the usual suspects would be screeching on TV all ready-- the Pakistani paper in one of the links within links above jumped on "another mass shooting in America..."
Normally, the killer(s) would be related to the victims in some way, but you can't rule out an old-fashioned homicidal maniac at this stage, either.
Better check the loads in my sidearm before I go out today... and maybe toss a shotgun in the trunk.
Yep, the early reports were along the lines of "horrific injuries"-- firearms make more sense.
I drove by there early yesterday afternoon & noticed a couple of TV trucks at the entrance, which I thought was weird - but hadn’t heard anything about the deaths at that time. Late afternoon there were even more TV trucks and a tent set up there...
I’m also amazed at the lack of coverage; all I’ve heard is Kennedy coverage - but my parents (out of state) had heard about it on CNN by mid-afternoon.
Seems to me that it probably is either domestic or drug-related, but I think it’s a little odd that the local police chief seems to be urging caution on the public...
Most of the coverage says it’s a nice place, and the last time I was back there, it was, but the pictures I’ve seen of the trailer involved don’t look like the owner is currently operating a very tight ship.
As I just mentioned at Free Dominion:
I just sat in my truck, trying to get an area radio station's "news on the half-hour," ( that's when the local news airs ) and since it's Sunday- zip!
The descriptions of New Hope sound somewhat pejorative to me, altho it has been years- 1973 was my last run there-- since I've been there.
I suspect that if I really wanted to make the drive, Mudcat Charlie's would be the place to go for scuttlebutt...
Breaking on the Brunswick Snooze’s website is “there is no manhunt, and we aren’t looking for suspects”— so the killer(s) must be in the group of casualties. Very interesting.
Just looking at the pictures:
LOTS more information here, where it says they are investigating it as a murder-suicide, and some of the victims are identified.
