Have you served? Even if you didn't, you'd know that smoking is a way of life in the military and has been since this nation's founding. It's like taking away a baby's pacifier. When soldiers get shot, they wanted their momma and a cigarette. It's a comfort vice for our troops. Taking away tobacco reduces their morale. Of course, that's Obama's objective anyway.
When I was in boot camp I learned that if you were a smoker you got to take a smoke break with the Company Commander while the others worked. Operant conditioning at it’s finest.
Don't be silly.
No one is arguing, forcefully or otherwise, in favor of smoking, or encouraging you to so the same.
The argument is with eternal busybodies who give idiots a bad name.
They argue the most absurd things, like protecting soldiers in the battlefield between skirmishes, or protecting the condemned prisoner prior to his execution; then, there's the ever-popular, we (gummint) will pay for your health care and the only tiny price is your individual freedom of choice concerning a still legal substance!
Every time this subject appears here, I am reminded of two things...
