No way do I question the intelligence of some cats...but when someone tells me their (prolly somewhat deaf &/or blind) 36 yr old cat “ventures” out to the street, it makes me cringe.

ps: I love your cat’s name! If you don’t mind, I’d like to borrow it for my next kitty.

Please feel free to borrow the name. Bat was named due to her skinny body and huge ears; as a kitten, her ears were literally bigger than her head, giving her the appearance of a wingless bat. Our next-door neighbor actually named her, but I'm sure he won't mind.

We also call her Kômori, which means "bat" in Japanese.

I don't have a recent photo of Bat online right now, but here's on from a couple of years ago, leeching warmth from sleeping peacefully with a then-newborn Baby Chan. As you can see, she grew into the ears!
