Ummmmmm, those are famous last words, if I ever heard 'em.
For cats who have a hankering to roam, cooping them up with make for a shorter and more neurotic life. I am assuming the cat is "car smart." My cat lived on three busy streets, and never made a mistake throughout his life. He would have been VERY unhappy if he had to spend all his time indoors.

My cat MiMi was a stray and she had been living as a homeless cat in a colony behind my apt bldg about 4 yrs ago. She was always outside and even when she did come in to eat and sleep (she adopted me) she would venture out everyday even for a while.
When I moved a few years ago she still went outside but then one day she changed her mind. She has no interest in going outside at all. She seems content and happy and not neurotic at all. I encourage her on diff occasions to come outside accompanying her but she wants nothing to do with “OUTSIDE”
