I've heard people here in North Carolina call a fire a "far" off and on for years! We've gotta watch out for those forest fars, ya know. ;)
Reminds me of little Johnny who played one of the wise men in the Christmas pageant. He showed up for the dress rehearsal in a fireman’s hat. When questioned by his teacher, he said, “But you said that they came from afar!”
