Is there not ONE Republican legislator in Mass. who has a pair and is willing to go to the mats over this and file a lawsuit if the Rats dare try and change the law?
(I don't know the composition so not sure if they could use a filibuster or even if its available)
I can't imagine that by doing so, would not tie this up in court for at least the 5 months (maybe longer?) period which is the time which the present law calls for a special election.

All it takes is one Massachusetts Citizen to go down to the Secretary of the Commonwealth and demand to register to run for the seat. The process should be underway already.
If the SOC says “NO”, the voter can file suit.
Don’t count on politicians to do a Citizen’s job. They are all part of the problem.
