So we have made it to the home stretch of another great season on the PGA Tour. With the first event at hand, 125 players have qualified for the opportunity to win the 3rd FedEx Cup trophy and the $10 million annunity that goes along with it. This week, the tour comes back to the tri-state area, specifically Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. Once an area of abandoned warehouses along the Hudson River, course designer Tom Kite and his team brought together a great course in an urban setting that provides great views of the NYC skyline, the Statue of Liberty along the river shoreline.
Without going into how the points system works or who finished in the top 125, http://www.pgatour.com provides easy access to the complete list as well as how the scoring system will work for each event. What happens from here? The top 100 in points after this week will be qualified for next week's event, the Deutsche Bank Championship that will be held at TPC Boston. From there the top 70 move on to the BMW Championship at Cog Hill G.C. just outside of Chicago. The Tour Championship, presented by Coca Cola is the finale. The top 30 in points will compete at East Lake G.C. in Atlanta 72 holes, no cut with the winner with the highest point total walking away with the top prize.....
All of the top 125 will compete this week for the most part, including many of the top 20 players in the world. Tiger, Phil, Vijay, Padraig and all 4 major winners from this year, Masters' Champ Angel Cabrera, US Open Champ Lucas Glover, Open Champ(and FR's favorite)Stewart Cink and PGA Champ Y. E. Yang join the party to get "the playoffs" underway.......

unreal location for a Golf Course
PING A LING, to the golf peeps!!!
*great course provides great views of the NYC skyline, the Statue of Liberty along the river shoreline.*
Have great great grandparents who lived in Jersey City.
Did you see the special on the making of the course? It was a complete mess of a place before being turned to its present state....
TiVo BUCKET UP!
Can’t wait! I’ll be here Thursday.
Thanks for the ping.
We drive past this every day on our way to work. It’s very exciting for Jersey City.
And....they fixed the three big BuMpS in the road for this tourney, so that is all good.
Did they find Jimmy Hoffa?
I also find it hard to believe that they were able to remove all the pollutants.
Awwww! You made me grin!
What special? Golf Channel? I will look for it.
My neighbors moved here from NJ - says the course is amazing. He is up there this week and will attend for two days.
I’d like to see that too. Interesting hearing the players’ comments about the course.
Go, Stewart!
Hmmmm. I didn’t realize it was Jersey City.
Isn’t that where Khadafi’s coming this weekend?
(Maybe someone can hit a wayward tee shot and bonk him on the head!)
Jimmy Hoffa! - made me LOL!
It was on CBS on Saturday afternoon. Interesting stuff!!!
Some of that rough looks links like too. I wouldn’t want to be hitting shots out of it.....
I saw it. There used to be oil storage tanks with no bottoms on the site. They put a membrane over the land and added fifty feet of soil over it. I’ll be watching the tournament just to see the course.
Sure as heck does. Statue of Liberty in the background is cool too.
The last two years I transferred down to the south end and that was like heaven by comparison. Much preferred the Moorestown-Bordentown ecology to North Jersey.
I can’t remember if they played this course last year or if they were out on Long Island. I want to see the layout of this course more than anything. I can’t think offhand of another course that holds a high profile event like this in as urban an area as this one is.
Most all other courses are in little enclaves that are cut off from urban characteristics. Not Liberty National, though.
some adjustments to the TV schedule as I found the accurate one.....
On Saturday, Golf Channel has coverage from 1:00-3:00 with CBS picking things up at 3.
On Sunday, Golf Channel has coverage from Noon-2:00 with CBS picking things up at 2:00.....
Everything else is the same as my earlier post.....
