I believe you. They are family, and you love them. Too, you and your wife are very big hearted people. Given that, it’s not hard to understand your “story”.

I think it's going to be happening in the future. Even if civil marriage for gays doesn't spread beyond the states that it is currently already in it seems reasonable that I'll encounter these sorts of things. More gay couples will get married over time and they will move about the country for jobs, to be close to family, tourism, etc. I own a business that brings me into contact with strangers and tourists on a daily basis. I've met two or three gay couples that way in the past year. I don't see why that number will go down. Two of those were Canadian but I don't think that makes much difference.
My question is why isn't Jane thrusting her sex life in my face if she introduces me to her husband Simon? Its essence is the same - introducing me to somebody they have joined in a legal civil marriage. Why should it be ok for anybody to thrust their sex life in my face?

I dont understand why FReepers always treat homosexuals so badlyFrankly what two people do, doesn't really concern me. I have some gay friends, and they are not the "in your face" types.
I think the problem a lot of us have is with a certain segment of the gay population that feels that it has to attack "normalcy" to justify their behavior. They attack our institutions of religion and Judeo-Christian values. And that is what we have a problem with. They believe homosexuality should be considered equal to heterosexuality.
It is not. That's not saying that two grown adults can't be free the live the life they choose as long as it doesn't hurt anybody, but don't try to tell me that both lifestyles are equal.

I could have written the exact same post as you. Another phone number I’ll never forget, for the same reason, was that of Empire’s competitor, Lincoln Carpeting: N-A-2-9000. It shouldn't. They're coming on to you. ("YMCA" playing in background)

Exactly. Good thing they never acquiesced to a newspaper interview where they talked about their relationship.

Ehhhhh... it seems to me that if the one is thrusting their sex-life in my face by introducing me to their spouse then the other one is as well. Of course - I don't particularly think anybody is thrusting their sex-life in my face when they introduce me to the person they are legally married to. When a friend, client, or whoever introduces me to their spouse I just don't think about them having sex. I would find that a bit ick for anybody to do. And unwholesome. Why go there immediately?
Because it's normal, and has been for thousand of years worldwide.
*grin* Thank you for the smile. I needed it today.

Marriage is a union between one man and one woman, an arrangement ideal for the likely offspring.
It is also a tenet of religion, government should have absolutely no role in it.
We're all set here, take your crazy talk somewhere else.

I agree. There is a distinction to be made between civil marriage and religious marriage. I certainly treat marriage as a sacrament instituted by Christ - and the state has no place in that.
That being said... I still recognize civil marriages and marriages conducted in other faiths. Not as part of the same institution but rather as a legal union. It doesn't meet my religious test but why should it? As a Catholic I don't reocgnize divorce as licit but I recognize the legal reality of it. Similar principle.
We're all set here, take your crazy talk somewhere else.
Actually I think the crazy talk is the suggestion that when somebody introduces you to a legal spouse they are thrusting their sex life in your face. Somebody introducing you to a legal spouse shouldn't immediately conjure images of their sex life first thing. I mean ewwwww. I think that's just ick to go there immediately. When I introduce granny and gramps to people I hope they don't do that. Same for mom & dad. Eww. Inquiring minds shouldn't be on those matters.
