If he truly was born in Hawaii, I don’t think it matters when. Hawaii is a state, which would make him natural born.

Barry Goldwater was born in AZ before it had become a state. Are we suggesting he wasn’t natural born? This article is silly.

But I would still like to see a birth certificate.

That was one of my first thoughts too, I wonder what the laws say about it.

Another Freeper has reported that Democrats were indeed prepared to raise this as an issue in the '64 election, but decided it was unnecessary because Johnson was so far ahead in the polls.

But it wasn't a state *then*. Although since it was part of the United States, I tend to think you are correct, it wouldn't matter, except for the little problem of his father's lack of citizenship, at the time, or ever.

Well, one indication of why this little glitch was exposed relates to the specious comment you so casually tossed out, that being born in Hawaii would make him a natural born citizen ... and you know the issue is far from settled since his claimed father was a British subject. Are you one of those who believes anchor babies born of illegals but upon AMerican soil are also natural born citizens?
