No telling what would happen from a nasty storm these days with the economy in the tank, and Florida property insurance in worse trouble. Florida has a state insurance pool that was originally established as the property insurance of last resort. Eventually, it was competing with private property insurance carriers, who then folded or pulled out of the state. Of course, the state fund (Citizens) is woefully underfunded.
Other than that, Obama's Health Care debacle has nothing to learn from Florida's property insurance experience.
Nauti - that's how it's done, and that's how Zero is going to drive private insurance out of business.....our thing here in California is Earthquake insurance.
We chose a company other than the "state" at a much lower premium/deductible....all well and good for one year.
We got our renewal this year, and the company stated that they were 'required by the state' to value our home at something like $800,000 and the premium would be raised accordingly.
We didn't renew - went with the sh*tty state program with minimal benefits. Phock 'em all.
PS - the Camry still has a few lovebug scars, but we wear them with honor. I wanted to plasticize the one single unhooked "loser" that was still in the grill, but the poor bastard disentegrated.
