Jerry Rivers (Geraldo Rivera) was on Fox-n-Friends this morning passionately talking about his father-in-law who died of prostate cancer a few months ago. He (the patient himself) chose to terminate treatment. But, Geraldo made the point that we need to, in essence, force the discussion onto the patient - supporting the statists plans to codify the discussion since most costs occur near the end of life. My wfe and I both blurted out "But that's the PATIENT'S CHOICE", not the government's "suggestion". Geraldo alluded to a panel to force the discussion, but if the panelists already have the bias toward NOT treating, logic tells us that the panelists will advocate termination of care due to the costs.

How else would you describe the panel (or set of politically-appointed bureaucrats) OTHER THAN a "death panel"? Form follows function - they will have NO objectivity and will advocate the cost-savings position of a quicker path to 'end of life' for their definition of the greater good.

I saw that. He said that this was a cost saving move. Then they went to a segment on the helicopter crash over the Hudson last week. I believe Geraldo said he knew the pilot and how tragic his death was. My husband said, “think how much cost this man saved the govt. by dying in the crash instead of waiting for the govt. to have to take care of his health later in his life.”
