An Indiana woman whose pet wallaby, a marsupial that resembles a small kangaroo, ran away nearly two months ago said the animal is finally back home.
Carolyn Buck of Gaston said Sydney the wallaby escaped June 27 while a new fence was being installed and she received phone calls of sightings ranging from her neighborhood to Hartford City, Gas City and Pendleton, The (Muncie, Ind.) Star Press reported Wednesday.
"We've had a few funny reports," Buck said. "I appreciate people looking for her and asking about her, but I don't think she ever got very far away."
Buck said she and family members used a dog kennel to create a pen near her property that they filled with food designed to lure Sydney. She said her son-in-law finally managed to snap the pen shut with the marsupial inside Monday night.
Buck said Sydney appears to be in good health and high spirits.
"I kind of feel like she's glad to be home," she said.
Watch me wallabys feed mate.
Watch me wallabys feed.
They’re a dangerous breed mate.
So watch me wallabys feed.
Altogether now!
Tie me kangaroo down sport,
tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down sport,
tie me kangaroo down.
