Antoine, 68, of Thousand Oaks was driving his motor home south on Highway 101’s Conejo Grade on Monday afternoon when he spotted the motorcycle on his left side and saw the rider raise a hand in what Antoine thought was a wave, he said.
“A half-second later, he turned right into me and disappeared under the truck,” Antoine said in an interview Tuesday. “There was absolutely zero time to react.”
The crash killed the motorcyclist. Authorities on Tuesday did not identify the victim, a 57-year-old Ventura man, saying they were still working to notify a relative. But according to a friend and his employer, the victim was Robert Kashdan.
California Highway Patrol officials said Monday that it appeared the motorcyclist made an obscene gesture and deliberately slowed in front of Antoine, leaving the motor home driver no time to stop to avoid a collision.
