I have a friend who did something similar to this. He was a lawyer in NYC, married with two daughters, and one day he had some sort of breakdown and gave it all up.

He now is a janitor in the church he grew up in (his father was the pastor years ago), lives in a 2 room apartment in the basement of the church and is happy. Go figure!

Mental health is a strange thing. I for one believe he is a victim of a breakdown.
