If you are unarmed, you are a victim waiting to happen. If you don’t know your weapon well enough to know that it will operate when you need it, I agree, you shouldn’t be carrying.

My point to the original poster was that some weapons are more finicky than others. They might be fine for target shooting down at the range, but not for personal defense. My feeling is spend a little extra money and get a good reliable weapon. Take care of it and it will last a life time. With a personal weapon you need to know its going to work, not just think it is going to work.
As for ease of cleaning that's important because it encourages you to get down to the range and practice. That first shot is likely the one that decides if you live long enough for a second one. So make sure you can put it exactly where you want it to go.
