I still don’t see what the gay guy was doing that was illegal. Attempting to hide behind a small try or pretending to talk on a cell phone are not crimes, AFAIK.

Probably went from there to disorderly conduct or threatening a police officer.
The article clearly states that he was arrested for not using the crosswalk which, obviously, was the officer’s way of preventing him from endangering himself further. It was a rational and trained response.
