I used to have AT&T DSL (6Mbps), DirecTV satellite, and 2 AT&T phone lines.
I dropped all of that, except one of the phone lines to go with this Cable One package. After more than a year of this, I canceled the 2nd phone line a few weeks ago.
I figured we can use any of our three cell phones to make calls if the cable phone line goes out, so that saves us another $41 a month.
All in all, I’ve got 8Mbps cable Internet and all of the channels I used to have with DirecTV for about the same price per month.
I’m happy, but nothing is completely trouble free. Today was one of the very few outages we’ve had.

A Very Cool Thing just happened. I called Cable One to confirm that they have completed repairs or tweaks or whatever they had to do, and after confirming that, the CS rep told me that they are bumping me up from 8Mbps to 10Mbps service FOR FREE. And she did it immediately. After I rebooted everything, I did a speed test, and here are the results:

Download Speed: 10365 kbps (1295.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1002 kbps (125.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Then she went on to say I can save nearly $30 a month if I’m willing to agree to a new 24 month contract. It seems they have modified their packages (recession related, I’m sure) and my package costs less money.
Let’s see, about $300 a year less cost in exchange for a new 24 month contract. Tough call.
