Reigning F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton says it will be "an honour and a privilege" to race against seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

The German is coming out of retirement to drive for Ferrari while Felipe Massa recovers from a crash and will return to racing at the European Grand Prix.

"He is one of the sport's greatest competitors, a legend - it'd be great to compete against him," said Hamilton.

Hamilton's a a plucky kid. He's one of the best young drivers I have seen in a long time, and I have seen quite a few, Senna, Mansell, Prost, Piquet and even Schumey himself.
Without that silly mistake in China, Hamilton could have won the F-1 world campiosnhip in his very first F-1 season. That;s virtually unheard of.
As for Schumacher, the only driver who in my book challenges him as the greatest formula one driver ever, would be Juan Manuel Fangio.
In terms of pure stats of course, no one can touch Schumacher, with his 5 straight world championships and 7 world championship titles overall, but being the greatest is not only about just stats.

Scumacher's stats:
# 1. He holds the record for most World Championships (seven)
# 2. Most consecutive World Championships (five)
# 3. Most race victories (91)
# 4. Most fastest laps (76)
# 5. Most pole positions (68)
# 6. most points scored (1,369)
# 7. And most races won in a single season (13).

He is also the only driver to have achieved an entire season of podium finishes, on his way to his 154 podium finishes.
No one even comes close.

spot on with the kid however, i never saw Fangio, but... i've seen em all from the first GP's here at the Glen like Moss, Clark, Hill Brabham and the Bruce... till 2000, and i think Senna is the Man.

had he not died there's no telling what he might have accomplished.

that and i think he faced a stronger crop of drivers than Schuy too

Much of Fangio's fame came from ONE race: the German Grand Prix in 1957 at Nürburgring. Read the accounts of that race and the way he won that race the truly the stuff of legend, especially considering how dangerous the Nordschleife course is.

I ran the Nordschleife in one of those racing simulations (Gran Turismo 3 or 4, I forget).

Wow, what a difficult race track. I can’t even imagine doing it for real.

I can’t say, as I’ve only owned a PS or PS2. Gran Turismo is great, but I have also heard great things about the Forza franchise.

If I ever upgrade my gaming box, I’ll let you know. ;)

Agreed - Senna was the best I’ve ever seen, and yes, better than Shumi. What he managed to with that dog MP4/8 was nothing short of miraculous.

I’ve driven the Nordschleife in Grand Prix Legends, using F1 cars from 1967. It is very seldom I can get a complete lap in without something going wrong (typically it’s not landing straight at Flugplatz or getting overconfident on the faster sections). So far, I’ve set my best lap time in one of the slowest cars in the sim, the Coventry (it’s a Cooper-Maserati without the rights to the name).
