Are there Hawaii SS numbers? I thought they were issued by the feds.

first three digits of your ssn = state of issue (usually state of birth, can’t imagine why his kindergarten ssn number wouldnt be from hawaii)

i believe the first 3 numbers indicate which state it was applied for or issued to you in...

They are, but the first three numbers indicate which state they were issued in. After '72 it has been based on the ZIP code in the mailing address provided on the application for the original Social Security card. .

From the SS Administration itself

575-576 indicate a card issued in or to Hawaii.
