Palin's "Mad as Hell" Speech
cbsnews. ^

Posted on 07/26/2009 9:01:58 PM PDT by JoeProBono

In a fiery speech that felt more like a partisan campaign rally than a formal transfer of power, outgoing Alaska Governor Sarah Palin reflected upon her administration's most significant achievements and shared her vision for the country's future. But the address was most notable for Palin's remarkably blunt swipes at her favorite nemesis: the media.

In her nearly 20-minute speech, which directly preceded incoming governor Sean Parnell's swearing in, Palin had only a few words to say about her successor, but she had plenty of advice for journalists.

"You represent what could and should be a respected, honest profession that could and should be a cornerstone of our democracy," she said. "Democracy depends on you, and that is why-that's why our troops are willing to die for you. So how about in honor of the American soldier, you quit makin' things up."

Palin did not elaborate on her accusation, which in borrowing from her former running mate, John McCain, she described as "some straight talk," but the crowd on hand rewarded the line with its heartiest round of applause.

Her now several weeks old public feud with David Letterman over the late-night comedian's failed joke about one of her daughters was apparently still smarting, as she leaned forward into the microphone and added angrily, "One other thing for the media, our new governor has a very nice family, too, so leave his kids alone."

The heated tenor that Palin employed to lash out at the press and others who she said were "hell-bent on tearing down our nation," was the exclamation point on a dramatic turnaround in her relationship with the media, which had once been something close to symbiotic.

During her 2006 gubernatorial campaign and throughout her first year-and-a-half in office, Palin was widely considered a media darling in Alaska, where her fresh face and bold ideas signaled a dramatic departure from the wildly unpopular incumbent governor Frank Murkowski. After her term began, Palin persuaded no less than seven Alaska journalists to join her administration, most notably two veterans of Anchorage's dominant KTUU station, Meg Stapleton and later, Bill McAllister, to head her communications team.......

I’m surprised CBS was even able to talk with their lips so firmly attached to Obama’s behind. Mad as hell LOL Sarah wasn’t mad, she was smiling the whole time. I am the one that is angry, angry about the way the media has treated her since day 1, not because she is a Conservative Republican, but because she is the greatest threat to Obama’s Presidency(Besides his negative 11, yep negative 11 poll numbers) they know Obama is tanking and fast and they are terrified, they thought that everyone would embrace a Socialist, it’s not working. No one trusts the media anymore, they are just spew propaganda for Obama and everyone KNOWS IT. WOW, when Sarah said “Quit making stuff up” I would have gone further, I would have said “Hey media, stop being puppets for Obama,your not fooling anyone” So basically these media clowns flew up there to bash her, but they had no problem eating the free food over there. What else is knew with libs, they take whatever free stuff they can get, then turn around and smear you.

Time to flood the country from coast-to-coast with Palin 2012 bumper stickers if nothing else to mock the idiotic Obama-Biden bumper stickers still driven around by imbeciles in California and Oregon.

CBS would call her angry. She wasn’t the least bit angry, and the MSM went after her children long before Letterman the idiot did.

Wow, a no holds barred fighter. Someone you can follow to the ends of the earth.

No.

Someone to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with in battle.

Sarah is but one participant, and it's not her fight alone - everybody must take a stand like her example, and clear the decks wherever you may be. I've been doing that very thing for months.

~~~WTF? Symbiotic?~~~~
Actually, the guy has a good point. I speak as someone who was in the Alaska print media for many years. Before her selection as vice-president, Palin had a good relationship with the media. She was open and honest, and had the ability to speak well off the cuff. Of course, Alaska is really the world’s largest small village, and everyone knows everyone - the annual meeting of the newspaper reporters and editors in the state took place in a small auditorium. This also means that the meanspirited SOBs occupying key positions in lower 48 cities and states, normally protected by a large population and anonymity, get ratted out quickly around here.
When she was selected for vice-president, though, the allegience of the Alaska media for the Democrats and leftist causes trumped “local girl does good.” In fact, it looked like the media and local Democrat hacks used the nomination to make a name for themselves smearing Sarah with phony stories and imaginary ethics complaints.
The only good thing about Sarah’s rise to fame is that now we know where a good number of the local media outlets and personnel stand when it comes to judgment and ideology.
A good speech, too. I watched Sarah in her early years in Wasilla, and I knew she was destined for great things. She’s just creating a new trail for her ascent.
I think you're right. Soon they will long for the days when she was safely out of sight (for the most part) up in Alaska - surfacing only when they took random ad-hominem shots at her. I have a suspicion (and a hope and a prayer) that she is clearing the decks for action, and that she is coming after the MSM in particular, and lying, hypocritical, power-hungry, socialist liberals in general.
Sarah Palin in 2012!
Saw one of those Honda Prius or Piss-as the other day at the mall with an Obama Yes We Can and fight global warming sticker.
I had a unused McCain Palin sticker in my car so took my knife and cut off McCain pealed off the back and stuck Palin on over the Obama part.
Now it says Palin, Yes We Can.
a dramatic turnaround in her relationship with the media, which had once been something close to symbiotic.
That one jumped out at me too. When exactly did Palin have a "symbiotic" relationship with the media?
Within days of her VP nomination, these people were hinting that Trig was really her granddaughter, openly suggesting (idiotically) that Palin had caused Trig's Downs Syndrome by flying while pregnant, and scouring the back alleys of Alaska looking for any more rumors they could find about her.
The media HATED this woman from day one for her political views, for her many children, and most of all for her public rejection of the abortion option. They have done nothing but attack her and facilitate other attacks on her.
"Symbiotic"? My ass.
I admire the concept but don’t succumb to vandalism. That’s Statist/Looter behavior.
Rise Above.
Now, if you’re talking about one of those stickers on a lamp-post or telephone pole, go for it!
Point taken. Someone else also mentioned that they were talking about her press relations pre-VP nom. I suspect a lot of her earlier relationship with the media was based on the fact that she was going after corruption in the Republican party up there. I'm sure the media folks thought that was just wonderful. :)
Anyway, always great to hear your take on things both as an Alaskan and as someone who's been in the media up there. It's going to be fun watching where she goes from here. I personally think she's going to make some history. Hope it's not wishful thinking.
Great post, filbert.
I have Representatives and Senators who are in Washington D.C. to supposedly "represent" me - but I do not feel represented.
Sarah is speaking my views, addressing my concerns point by point by point, right down the line, speaking what has to be said, taking it to straight to the criminals and weasels, right in their faces. I am not a national public figure, but Sarah is, and I feel that through her I am being represented, loudly and clearly and in real time. That is the attraction to me and many others that I know, and the source of fear for the criminals and weasels.
I think you are spot on, I am not in the media Alaska or otherwise but that is exactly what I saw. When she won the election for governor I turned to my husband and said “she is going to go national, you know that don’t you”
Thanks.
To put it bluntly - when you’re in a small place like Alaska, you can’t spit in the soup. The media treated Sarah pretty much with fairness and good judgment. And, yes, the guy she replaced was distant, slow, an old-time politician, and had the faint odor of corruption about him. Even then, we all live together up here, and we’re all very, very heavily armed, so people are usually polite in public and forgiving in general - the climate and culture up here means that you have to sometimes endure harshness with grace.
Those of us who knew Sarah Palin 15 years understood she was going places. I still think she’d make a fine president after chatting it up with her a few times. We’ll see how she endures the leftist assault.
I love the lady and her straight-shooting style, but can someone PLEASE encourage her to add a few ‘G’s to her words? Maybe she can even get a few snotty New Yawkers to vote for her...
