Welcome back! Tell your son ‘congratulations and thank you for your service’ from us. I know the pride you felt as you watched the graduation ceremony. Where was your son’s training location? We came out to San Diego for our son’s graduation.

Thanks, Marm. Yes, I was so proud, I embarassed myself by crying through the whole thing. I've never really felt his way before, such overwhelming emotion and pride - not just for my son, but every single airman and airwoman (?) out there. After all the US-bashing by those in DC and all over, I felt so at home there, where the flag was respected, and never wanted to leave.

Is your son in the Navy then? Mine is in the Air Force and all the basic training is in Lackland AFB, in San Antonio. They said they graduated 40,000 airmen a year! There were probably 500 on that Friday that went through the ceremony. I have to say that synchronized swimmers have nothing on our military - and only after 8 weeks!

My hubby said he thought all the Navy basic was in SD now - he went though it in Chicago, in winter! (But was then stationed in SD and loved the weather).

He’s a Marine. He was at MCRD-San Diego. Yep, it sure is a different feel on base then in our general society.
