2 descriptions of Tom Watson's caddie at the British Open (he's a Democrat consultant?)

I was just reading up on Tom Watson's amazing run at the Open when I just caught something that made me go hmmmm...

This is the paragraph on Fox Sports Robert Lusetich Blog which is probably the source of the AP sports story...

"He couldn't do it Saturday. On the 18th fairway, after hitting onto the green, he turned to his caddie, the Democratic political consultant Neil Oxman, and brought up their friend — Watson's late caddie, Bruce Edwards, who passed away from complications associated with Lou Gehrig's Disease."

Neil Oxman, Watson's caddie is a DEM CONSULTANT??

****Now here's the AP STORY (same paragraph)***

"Then came another long salute as he walked toward the 18th green. Watson blinked back tears, especially when caddie Neil Oxman, a friend from Philadelphia, mentioned that Bruce Edwards was surely watching. Edwards, who was Watson's longtime caddie, died of Lou Gehrig's disease five years ago."

Watson himself is a conservative. Doesn’t matter to me who carries his bag.

Paul Azinger (a died-in-the-wool Republican) commented about this today. He said something to effect of, “They’re tremendous friends despite clearly being from different sides of the isle”. Watson is an unabashed Republican as well.

Smerconish ( back in the day I listened to him) had this guy on; although I only caught him the one time, it seemed hat it was an ongoing series, but mostly based on jet -setter envy themes.

I saw Tom Watson almost come to tears at the 18th, and wondered what that was all about. It appears it was because of the reference to Bruce Edwards. Their last tournament together, both knew it was the last and the ending was very emotional...

That’s good to know. Then again, MOST PGA members are Republicans as one commentator on the Golf Channel let loose 2 years ago and I heeard it. I forgot which commentator it was but it was something like this:

“Of course, they (golfers) are Republicans. They all live in Florida and hate paying taxes. Even Vijay Singh lives in Florida..”

Oxman is also on the board of directors of the Bruce Edwards Foundation of which Tom Watson is Honorary Chairman.

I got one of those golf magazines around election time that had an anonymous poll of professional golfers in it. In one question, they asked who the golfers voted for. IIRC it was something like 71% McCain.

Golf Magazine is owned by Time Inc. and Golf Digest is owned by Conde Nast (publisher of Vanity Fair and several other way-left magazines). So, I'm guessing that they both tilt to the left. I've found that all journalist, and even sports journalists and specifically golf journalist tilt to the left, even if the athletes themselves do not.
