People who witnessed a pit bull attack a little girl in Hamilton say they will never get the horrible image out of their mind.
The dog warden says the five-year-old girl was mauled by her father's dog named "Monster." It happened on Knightsbridge Drive.
Officers on the scene describe the little girl's injuries as "very serious."
Neighbors say they heard screams and rushed to help, but the pit bull didn't want to let go.
The person who called 911 told the dispatcher: "A pit bull dog is attacking a little kid. It's in the backyard. We can't get him off of her. It's been going on for about five and we can't get him off of her. Someone let him out of the cage. He's running around."
Investigators say the girl has bites to her face, head, arms and legs. The pit bull also bit the girls mother's feet.
Phyllis Knight, a neighbor said, "When you hear someone scream like that you know something's wrong the way they were screaming. It was definitely a wrong scream."
One neighbor beat the dog with her cane, but that wasn't enough to get the dog to stop biting.
Investigators say the little girl was visiting her father's home with her mother when the dog attacked.
The pit bull is now being held at the animal shelter in Trenton.
The dog warden, Julie Holmes, says "Monster" is about one-years-old. He is not neutered.
Investigators say the father wasn't home at the time. In most cases like this, the dog is put to sleep.
Detectives are investigating to determine if the parents will be charged with child endangering.
The girl was taken to Children's Hospital Medical Center by helicopter.
You can own a pit bull in Hamilton if it's kept indoors or kept in a secure pen outside.
The dog warden will decide if the father violated the pit bull law.
LOL!
It is hard to understand stand why children are continually provoking the gentle pit bull into vicious acts.
This is one reason I carry - even in my own yard.
That’s what my “tribe” does. (Thanks to Bill Whittle)
Everybody was cane-fu fighting!
Yet another mere coincidence involving a pit bull
I’m pretty sure that shooting people, who are not a threat to anyone, is already banned.
Guns don’t hop off the shelf and run out the door and shoot someone all on their own.
Stupid analogy.
The same irrationality that spurs gun control advocates drives those who would ban pit bulls.
And yet it still happens...
Weird huh?
