The fact that Tiger had a rare fizzle and is out on a day where Watson not only held his own but regained a share in the lead is bound to be a big lift.

We have seen other events in the last ten years where Tom looks like he did in his youth for the first day and then immediatly fades. This time he looked strong FINISHING the SECOND day playing in his event on a course he loves with a couple of powerhouses out of the game.

It could be a Storybook weekend.

I just watched PTI on ESPN and Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe made a comment that I suspect will generate some controversy. He said that if Watson won the Open it would be the absolute worst thing possible to happen to golf. Why? Because if one of golf's biggest events is won by a 60-year old man it could no longer be defended as a 'sport'. ....that if an old man can beat men in their prime, it's something other than a sport.

Ridiculous, I say.
