I would like to take my vacation in Ireland. Is there any Freeper help?
Don’t discuss religion or politics and you’ll have a lovely time.....
I would like to get to county ennis but it is a long way from the airport.
Ennis isn’t a county.
The first thing that I will discuss is religion, as I am Catholic.
I am pretty sure that Ennis is a town. I think that you are right that it is not a county. Thank you.
What do like to do? Fish, ride, drink and sing? Ireland is the best foreign vacation an English speaker can have outside of New Zealand. Enjoys yourself and the people.
Also, the Reader's Digest Illustrated Guide to Ireland is really helpful - to the point you take it on your trip, even if it's a hardback book. I'm amazed they haven't updated it, so some of the information may well be dated, now....
If you mean the town of Ennis I think you will find it’s only half an hour from Shannon airport but if you’re flying into Dublin it’s still only about a hundred and fifty miles away and accessible by train or road.
Nowhere in Ireland is “a long way from” anywhere, the entire country could easily fit inside many US states.
Don’t tell them you’re Irish. They laugh at Americans who say that.
potato head mick= i think you might be irish -dumbass me
It looks like my family sold out for a dollar.
I go to Ireland quite often. Why would you think you would get into trouble there?
Ennis is a town in Co. Clare, not far at all from Shannon airport.
I am planning on doing this my self. I want to get to Ennis and find out where my family came from.
Thanks for the info. I was hoping that we had a freeper that could meet me and possibly get this older lady off of my body.
Have they not heard of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame? Pity.
You’ll find the Irish in general somewhat garrulous but friendly, willing to argue over just about antyhing in a generally good-natured way, unless you start comparing the US to Ireland, so don’t do that.
Stick to the Republic Of Ireland, and your Catholicism certainly will not be an issue. I’m Protestant, and had no problems myself in the Republic. People think Northern Ireland is representative of the whole place. Not at all.
But, the Gardai (police) do take potential terrorist activities very seriously. Once when I was over there on business, in Dublin, some American from Massachussetts had apparently paid to have his Cadillac boated over for an extended visit in the Old Country, parked it too close to the hotel and left it for too long, and the Gardai brought the bomb squad in, hauled it off and blew it up.
Every flight I had into Ireland went through customs at Shannon anyway, so I don’t see why you couldn’t arrange an extended layover for your visit to Ennis. One of the principals in the business I was visiting in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, was an Ennis, from Ennis, raised quarter horses. Funny guy, biting wit, never knew when he was putting you on, and he was putting me on quite frequently.
It’s a beautiful country, some parts of Dublin are best avoided by novice tourists though.
If you plan to drive much, I hope you’ve had a little exposure to driving on the left with little or no markings on the roadway itself.
I found that late summer or early fall was the best time to catch warmer weather and sunshine.
That’s about all I can think of, off the top of my head, other than destination stuff, and you sound as if you already know where you would prefer to travel and spent your time there.
