Metal goes back to the heavy groups of the late 1960s. Iron Maiden was already in existence by the time of this event (if you were taling “new metal”).
The music industry is dictacting the tastes yet again. And as with newspaper and tv ratings, they wonder why audiences are tuning out.

No. It didn’t usher in metal. But it did usher in hair bands. I will always believe that hair bands are nothing more than heavy metal disco.
Look at a winger video(”she’s only seventeen”, for instance) and tell me that does not look and sound like the BeeGees trying to do metal.
A small price to pay for putting an end to disco.
