Apple does enjoy a cult like following, and I say that as something of a former member of the cult. For decades, Apple fought for gravitas, and now it has achieved it. Being the curmudgeon I am, I now like to bash Apple whenever I have the chance :)

But to keep it honest, Apple might not have a large share of the market, but it has a HUGE part of the "mindshare", and the fact is, even if you have never considered buying an Apple product, the truth is, when you buy a competitors product, it is simply a fact that Apple had a large influece on the design.

I know, Xerox and Palo Alto "invented" windows, but the modern implementation of the desktop interface was largely developed by Apple. Modern touch screen smartphones? Mostly Apple. MP3/media players? Apple.

I hate the Apple fanbois, but I give credit where credit is due.

I was there at the start and in the belly of the beast. I got out in 98 after being a Mac Cheerleader for too long.

Macs are very popular in design (mostly gay) circles which seem to intersect with media circles (somewhat gay), thus all the favorable press.
