Mostly lurker mode for the TdF, I ride a bike on my massive 2.1 mile, :-) commute to work most of the time.

Thanks for the informative commentary and pics.

Tens of thousands of spectators in closed ranks, uninterrupted, for kilometres and kilometres, clapping, cheering for everything that had to do with the Tour

Most kids in NL start on a bike before they can walk- literally, because that's how their moms all get around every day to the market, P.O., dry cleaners etc - with their little ones strapped in tightly on the back or front or even both. When I think of my younger bro as a toddler, I don't see a picture of his face in my mind's eye like most people see their younger siblings - I see a pic of an anonymous bundle perched on his 'ride' on my Mom's bike! It isn't til he got old enough to go to school that his identity decouples with that bike in my memory, lol.

A common sight all over NL

Also this.

Rumor has it that the Duchy of Grand Fenwick is feeling a bit left out regarding Grand Departs. They’re angling for one in 2011 or they’re gonna go nyukuler.

(I'm embarrassed to say I had to look up the Duchy of Grand Fenwick.)

Hey, as long as Tour organizers are inclined to showcase microcountries like Andorra & Monaco, I'd sure be great to see the peloton take a spin around the Piazza San Pietro one of these years!

I know, that was one of Bay’s goals, I think.

Yep. Maybe they could arrange it so that whoever wins the sprint points collects a papal blessing as a bonus!(St. Thor?)

I have a vision of His Holiness falling off the balcony as he stretches to see the peloton, then hanging from the banner below.

ala PP2 :>)

I have a vision

Speaking of vision, where was he this year?

Vision, you OK? Or just burnt out on cycling?

Had to look that one up too. Dang! I'm 0 for 2 on the obscure Peter Sellers references today. ;-(

I was actually thinking of the scene in Steve Martin’s 2nd Pink Panther movie.

OK, well I've definitely seen that one, so that means my mind has completely gone. And there goes my life's ambition of a Jeopardy championship straight down the drain, too, I guess.

Gee, R4F, you really know how to make a person feel inadequate, ya know that? LOL!

Hi guys, so what did you think of the Tour? Seemed kinda boring, but I didn't watch very closely.

leilani, yea I'm a little burned out. The Landis thing did it to me. The high, low, and lack of truth has left flat. I believe he raced this year but didn't do well; maybe that says something.

Miss sharing the thread with you.

I don't know the Peter Sellers' PP movies very well, he might have done the same thing as Martin in the Vatican scene.

Martin was a truly inspired choice to reboot the franchise; Jean Reno has got some comedic chops, too. I watch Léon (The Professional) at least once a month, great movie with Reno and the little moppet Natalie Portman in her 1st movie.

But, this all started with your mention of Rome as a possible Grand Depart for the TdF - seems like they would have to have a Rome start were the Tour to ever have a Grand Depart in Italy, huh?

Hi, vision, good to see you, old friend!! :)

I felt the same way, even mentioned to Leilani that Landis did it for me, but somehow I got interested again. Leilani sent me more than a few PMs to join in. The I returned the favor to her!

Part of it was Lance being back, part was the incredible strength of the Astana team, plus I just cannot let George and Levi wind down their careers without watching and cheering them on as well.

We’re going to do a thread for Tour of Spain, and another to keep track of LA’s Team Radio Shack developments as they add riders, etc.

We’ll keep you on the list?

PS, thought it was a very exciting Tour myself, but you did have to kinda immerse yourself in it to catch the numerous plotlines.

Thanks for replying, vision, you have been missed!

Just think how many posts we would have had if it had not taken 3 threads to get here.
