Today is day one! Armstrong riding. Astana is back! Predictions? Other comments? Does someone have the ping list from last year?
What do you think could happen, bay? Wiggins & Frank S attack and try to overtake LA on the podium?
Even more surprising is the dismal showing by Columbia - they were supposed to be THE team! Good on Garmin for the impressive showing.
So is it the Spaniards and Italians who are shoplifting the 3rd smooch?
On a related subject, are there stats on how many Tour riders have married Podium Girls? Phil mentioned 2 or 3 during his color commentary.
This is my first go around with anything other than Rabbit ears type antennas.. so all new to me.
I am wondering if their will be an official tour DVD for sale. That would be of very high interest for me.
Very well said.
Did I want Lance to win? yes. Just as I wanted tom Watson to win the Open championship last week.
I have always been an Armstrong fan, but I will admit this time age had a lot to do with it.
I am 48, I know I am watching the last vestiges of the younger pass away. I am still very active, and still play softball. But I am not the player I was just 5 years ago, and not half the player I was 10 years ago. I know that, but yet I hang on because every once in while I have that game where it all clicks and I feel that old magic - even if it is just a couple at bats or one or two plays in the field. For a moment I am young again.
So I wanted badly for Lance to pull it off for us ‘old farts’ just as I wanted so badly to will that last putt of Watson’s into the hole.
But as I look back at Le Tour and at today, I realize Lance did win. He won just by being at the top of Mont Ventoux today with the young guys that are the future of cycling.
Thank you Lance for giving it your all for all the ‘old farts’ everywhere.
Good point, Dr Mom, I missed that completely. I did think it was interesting that Garmin was at the front of the peleton and pursuit group, doing at least their share of the work.
They’ve absolutely crushed Columbia, haven’t they?
A DVD would be great, DollyCali. I’ll keep an eye out for 1 and let you know, pls do the same.
P.S. It must have Phil and Paul doing the commentary! ;)
Yeah, in retrospect ya gotta wonder how much of that internecine rivalry stuff was trumped up to psych out the other teams.
In re the podium girls, the only one I know of who married one is Big George.
oops, I meant GI up there, green I. I must be dyslexic - maybe that’s why I’m almost as much interested in the Lanterne Rouge as I am the winner!;-)
ig, gi - I don’t care.
Oh well - there’s always next year for Tyler. Yauheni seems to be a lock with his 22+ minute lead...
Thank you, bay!
AVIGNON, France - Lance Armstrong says he has no regrets about finishing third at the Tour de France.
The seven-time champion said he did as well as could be expected and offered high praise for Alberto Contador, who is headed for his second title. Armstrong said Saturday that even at his peak he may have lost to his Spanish teammate.
"Contador is that good," he says.
Meant to direct #875 to y’all.
well good gracious, there is a link for 12 hours for 89 dollars already up there!
thanks bay
so many put down Lance.. he is talented & it is nice to see this humility & support for superior teammate.
I recall years ago when Billie Jean King was an OLD approaching 40 & still winning tournaments. She was older than me & so I was in awe of her abilities to kick butt of the younger gals on the tour
I think that is a battle a lot of people would have liked to seen. Contador vs. Lance in their primes. Probably would be a fun debate.
That one’s a preview of Lance & the 2009 Tour, Dolly. We want the Liggett and Sherwin race highlights when it comes out.
