When in DC, I carry a revolver. Just shoot, and keep walking. I'll be damned if I let someone pull a knife on me. Judging by recent events, your odds are about even that they will kill you or seriously injure you anyways, so it mitigates any legal issues on my conscious.
I'll take my chances with the jury.

Love my Springfield XD .45
13 rounds with the extended mag. 10+1 with the smaller mag which makes it a reasonable carry.
It’s also pretty easy (relatively) to shoot for a .45 and half the price of many other guns. No offense, just nice to get a gun of this quality for this price.
DC sucks. I live in VA, carry, but work in DC in one of the worst neighborhoods. I carry a claw hammer and aluminum baseball bat in the car, but I’d much rather have the XD.
