The pit bull that was left alone with two unsupervised children in Orlando has been put to sleep.

Vanessa Bouffard of Orange County Animal Services said officials euthanized the 2-year-old puppy named Scrappy on Tuesday because of his bad temperament.

"It's unfortunate, but it's a hard decision we have to make when we don't have a good adoption candidate," Bouffard said.

The dog's former owner, Mary Ann Ayala, remains in Orange County Jail without bond after Orlando police arrested her on June 25. Ayala faces two counts of child neglect and two counts of child abuse.

Police said Ayala left two of her children, ages 3 and 6, alone for 12 hours with Scrappy in their Grove Park Apartment, off Curry Ford Road in Orlando. Neighbors alerted police after hearing the dog barking throughout the day and night.

Officers said there was no food or water inside the house for the children.

There is no such thing as a “two year old puppy”.
That is a dog.

I don’t understand why the dog was put down, did he attack the kids? If he didn’t I would say that the so called mother was much more dangerous than the dog and maybe she should have been put down.

If the dog was continuously barking for 12 hours why didn’t someone call the police sooner. A dog barking nonstop is usually a sign of distress. Not that I am a Pit Bull fan but it seems to me the dog was looking out for the kids trying to get help.
