WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- A homeless man was accidentally shot and wounded during a SWAT standoff on Wednesday.
The shooting occurred at a home near 4th Street and Division Avenue around 6:30 p.m.
A search warrant was being served at the residence when the owner ordered his pitbull to attack the officers, according to a police report. After non-violent attempts to subdue the animal failed, four SWAT members shot and killed the dog. A stray bullet ricocheted and hit John Poe.
He taken to a hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
Sources told WPTV that Poe was probably in the area collecting cans to sell for cash.
Police did not say why they were serving a warrant.
“A stray bullet ricocheted and hit John Poe. “
hmmmmmm
This is “news” in the same fashion that “egg cracks open, revealing baby chick” is news.
Dang, I just knew there would be a pit bull involved! :O)
I can’t wait until the chorus of “that’s what he gets for being homeless” starts.
John Poe instead of John Doe?
Maybe he’s a homeless poet instead of a homeless deer?
DOH!
Who owned the pit bull? The SWAT team or the homeless man?
Mr. Homeless will be trading in his box and basket for a new home and car thanks to SWAT.
Yep this is almost the SWAT trifecta. All it would take it being the wrong address and we would have everything.
Four SWAT to take down a dog. I could do that with a 1911.
Poe John.
Now that the lawyers are lining up by his bedside, Mr. Poe will no longer be homeless.
Unless he is homeless by choice in which case he will drink or inject himself to death soon.
show off!
Pit Bulls have very hard skulls, I wonder if that’s what the bullet ricochet’d off of.
not anymore!
I am wondering how many bullets were fired to take down the pit bull... I’d guess dozens.
There was just so many things wrong with that statement.
stray bullet ricocheted ? It wasn’t stray, it was poorly aimed. With a possible negligent discharge. If you or I discharged a firearm and hurt a bystander accidentally we would be arrested even if we had cause use deadly force.
